New Statewide Bond Bill Appears Dead. The primary vehicle for a new statewide school facilities bond, AB 2266 (Firebaugh, D-East Los Angeles), appears to be dead. There is, technically, a very small chance the bill could be resurrected, but the probability of that happening is near zero. Neither the Governor nor the super-majority required in the Legislature expressed any enthusiasm to place a statewide bond on the ballot this year. However, as the remaining funds from the second issuance of Proposition 1A of 1998 are exhausted over the next few months, there may be greater interest to revisit this issue in the next legislative session.
