Creative Program to Increase Student Enrollments. The San Francisco Community College District is offering an opportunity to students who enroll at their colleges to earn automatic admission to a four-year "traditional" black college. The program is aimed at increasing enrollment of African-American students at the City College of San Francisco. City College officials have indicated that agreements with at least 10 historically black colleges and universities will be signed during the month of October 1999. Their goal is to sign agreements with about 25 historically black colleges.

The transfer program is called the "African-American Educational Achievement Program." the program will start with 100 new students this year and although the goal is to attract and retain more African-American students, the program is open to students of all races.

Other community colleges have similar programs with one or two black colleges, but City College of San Francisco's program will be the first wide scale program in the nation, according to college officials.
