Forty-One Legislators Termed Out of Office. When the California State
Legislature adjourns its 2006 legislative session on August 31, 2006 it will
bring to an end the service of 48 Assembly and Senate members. Twelve senators
are leaving this year—all of them termed out. The Assembly has 36 outgoing
members, 29 of whom are termed-out.
The termed out senators are: Debra Bowen (D-Marina del Rey), Liz Figueroa (D-Sunol), Joseph Dunn (D-Santa Ana), Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough), Chuck Poochigian (R-Fresno), Wesley Chesbro (D-Arcata), Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento), Nell Soto (D-Pomona), Richard Alarcon (D-Sun Valley), Martha Escutia (D-Whittier), Kevin Murray (D-Los Angeles), and Bill Morrow (R-Oceanside).
The outgoing assembly members are: Tim Leslie (R-Tahoe City), Joe Nation (D-Novato), Joe Canciamilla (D-Pittsburg), Leland Yee (D-San Francisco), Wilma Chan (D-Oakland), Barbara Matthews (D-Tracy), Johan Klehs (D-San Leandro), Rebecca Cohn (D-Campbell), Judy Chu (D-Monterey Park), David Cogdill (R-Modesto), Simon Salinas (D-Salinas), Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield), Keith Richmand (R-Northridge), Cindy Montanez (D-San Fernando), Fran Pavley (D-Santa Monica), Paul Koretz (D-West Hollywood), Dario Frommer (D-Glendale), Carol Liu (D-La Canada Flintridge), Jackie Goldberg (D-Los Angeles), Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles), Jerome Horton (D-Inglewood), Jenny Oropeza (D-Long Beach), Rudy Bermudez (D-Norwalk), Ed Chavez (D-La Puente), Ron Calderon (D-Montebello), Dennis Mountjoy (R-Monrovia), Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Chino), Joe Baca Jr. (D-Rialto), Russ Bogh (R-Beaumont), Ray Haynes (R-Murietta), Tom Harmon (R-Huntington Beach—who already moved to the Senate), Tom Umberg (D-Santa Ana), Lynn Daucher (R-Brea), Mark Wyland (R-Del Mar), Jay LaSuer (R-La Mesa), and Juan Vargas (D-San Diego).
Expect to see some of the above names show up in other elected offices since they are running for statewide offices or are jumping between houses in 2007.
