By the Way. . .
Community College Trustees Could Double Their Compensation.
Legislation
introduced by Senator Dede Alpert (D-Coronado) would adjust the statutory
ceiling on compensation for members of a county board of education, a community
college board of education, a community college, or a school board. SB 1550
would also establish the Continuing Education Program for Governing Board
Members to provide ongoing training and education for county and school district
governing board members. The bill would double the current monthly compensation
limits (or ceiling) for governing board members. These levels are based on
districts ADA/FTES or the classification of counties. SB 1550 further provides
that the compensation levels may be further increased annually by the
cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) provided to K-12 board members who participate
in the new Continuing Education Program authorized by the bill.
SB 1550 is currently in the Assembly Appropriations
Committee, and its fate is unknown.
