By the Way . . .
Community College Students Appointed to State Boards and
Commissions.
Governor Davis recently made the appointment of several
community college students to statewide boards and commissions. Congratulations
to the two new student representatives on the California Community College Board
of Governors. As a result of legislation passed last year, students now have two
seats on the BOG, however only one may vote. The two new members are—Desirre
Michelle Abshire who is a student at San Francisco City College majoring in
Political Science and Annie Byrd who attends Santa Monica College and also
majors in Political Science and International Studies. Annie was a Student
Trustee at the college.
Governor Davis also appointed Rachel E. Shetka as a member of
the California Postsecondary Education Commission. Ms. Shetka is actively
involved in student government as a Student Trustee at Santa Barbara City
College. She has also served as a Senator and co-regional representative for
Santa Barbara City College’s student government.
