Department of Finance Gets New Director. Governor Davis has announced that former State Senator Steve Peace will join his Administration as Director of the Department of Finance following the release of the 2003-04 Governor’s Budget on January 10, 2003 . Peace will succeed Tim Gage, who has served in that capacity for the past four years. Gage will continue to work with the Administration through the introduction of the 2003-04 State Budget.  

Senator Peace (D-El Cajon) served for nine years in the State Senate, where he chaired the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee. Peace is regarded by colleagues on both sides of the aisle as sharp and energetic, but also temperamental and impatient.

 Senator Ross Johnson (R-Irvine) stated, “He’s a dead duck if he fails to be completely honest with the public and both Democrat and Republican legislators.”  

The Director of the Department of Finance requires confirmation by the State Senate.
