New Graduate Program Offered to Train
Administrators. Three
Northern California
universities are starting a new graduate program meant to train teachers,
professors, and other professionals for top management and administrative jobs
in K-12 schools and community colleges.
California
State
University
, Sacramento (CSUS), and the
University
of
California
, Davis (UCD), have teamed up with
Sonoma
State
University
to create a doctoral program in educational leadership. The three-year program,
scheduled to start August 2005, will lead to a Doctor of Educational Leadership
(Ed.D.) degree awarded jointly by the UC and CSU systems. The program will
target would-be leaders working in
Northern California
.
Local educators who must recruit
and hire leaders say the program will take the edge off the often difficult
search for talent. Typically, they look within the teacher, professor, and dean
ranks for candidates, but without many local options for getting an advanced
degree in educational leadership, many lack the necessary training.
The application deadline for the new program is
February 1, 2005. Information is posted online at http://education.ucdavis.edu/academic/edd/delcra.html.
