Governor Announces Appointment of Susan Kennedy. On November 30, 2005, the Governor’s Office announced the hiring of Susan Kennedy as the Governor’s new Chief of Staff. A Democrat, Kennedy previously served as cabinet secretary to former Governor Gray Davis, and is currently a member of the Public Utilities Commission. Kennedy replaces Patricia Clarey, who has announced her intention to leave at the end of the year. The position carries with it enormous power over the day-to-day operations of the Governor’s Office, as well as a broad ability to influence policy.
