Michael Genest Appointed Director of
Finance by Governor Schwarzenegger. On December 1, 2005, Michael
Genest became the new Director of Finance. Genest, who had been serving as
acting director of the Department of Finance, replaces Tom Campbell, who took a
leave of absence to promote the Governor’s special election initiatives,
particularly Proposition 76. Genest, a Republican, previously served as
deputy chief director of the Department of Finance from November 2003 to
February 2005 under then Director Donna Arduin, prior to returning to the
Department of Finance this past September 2005. Genest has served as
undersecretary to the Health and Human Services Agency, director of the Senate
Republican Fiscal Office, assistant deputy director of prevention services for
the Department of Health Services, deputy director of Welfare Programs at the
Department of Social Services, and worked for the Legislative Analyst’s
Office.
Former director Tom Campbell, who previously announced his intention to leave his post after the special election, has returned to his previous position as dean of UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
