Governor Announces High-Level Appointments
On Wednesday, December 13, 2006, Governor Schwarzenegger announced several high-level appointments as he enters into his second term of office. While many of the appointments are considered to be “job shuffling,” below are a few of the more notable new assignments.
Margaret Fortune will now serve as the Governor’s new Senior Advisor. She replaces Bonnie Reiss, who has served in that capacity since Governor Schwarzenegger was elected in 2003. Most recently, Fortune had been serving as an advisor to the Governor on education matters. Her previous experience includes serving as Superintendent of the St. HOPE Charter School, a Sacramento-based charter school, the Assistant Secretary for Education, a two-year stint under the Davis Administration, and chair of the Commission on Teaching Credentialing.
The Governor also appointed Chris Kahn as Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Secretary. In this role, Kahn will be the Governor’s chief liaison to the State Legislature. Kahn, who has until now been a lobbyist with Sloat Higgins Jensen and Associates, brings significant experience to this position. The former Chief of Staff to retired State Senator Marian Bergeson, Kahn also served as the Deputy Secretary for the Trade and Commerce Agency and worked as former Governor Wilson’s Chief Deputy Legislative Secretary.
Additionally, among the appointments announced today was that of Dan Dunmoyer as Deputy Chief of Staff and Cabinet Secretary. As Cabinet Secretary, Dunmoyer will help corral the various state agencies, serving as the Governor’s liaison. While he has been serving on the Governor’s staff for the past year, Dunmoyer is most well known for his years of work for the Personal Insurance Federation of California.
