By the Way . . .
Lake Tahoe Community College May Drop Community. The Academic Senate of Lake Tahoe Community College voted unanimously to remove “community” from the 32-year-old institution’s name. There are only ten colleges in the state with the name “community” in their title.
According to Keon Hall, the student representative to the Board of Trustees, the name change was in response to a recommendation by the college’s enrollment management committee. The college has broadened its base by increasing the number of online classes and it is serving a larger community than just Lake Tahoe. The name change would be a cost to the district in order to update stationery, signs, and the website.
According to President Guy Lease, it is simply a proposal at this time, since the Board of Trustees has not taken a vote on this issue. While the college is expanding online and outreach efforts, the proposal is garnering attention for the campus.
