Assembly Speaker Appoints Legislative Committee Members 

Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles) has appointed members to the Assembly Committees for the 2007-08 legislative session. With 33 freshman legislators, the make-up of committees has changed dramatically from last year.  

Several of the freshman legislators selected to serve on the new education and fiscal committees have a background in public education, including Julia Brownley, who served three terms as a school board member and president in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District;
Dr. Jean Fuller, former superintendent in the Bakersfield Elementary School District; Paul Krekorian, former president of the Burbank Unified School District Board of Education; Mike Eng, a part-time community college instructor; Anthony Portantino, a former middle school substitute teacher; and, Paul Cook, who teaches courses at California State University and Copper Mountain College. Below is a list of the appointments to the key education-related committees:
