Cerritos
Community College Gets National Recognition.
At the Annual Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) in
Washington, D.C., John Engler, President of the National Association of
Manufacturers (NAM), named Cerritos College and its partnership with Lockheed
Martin as a model example of industry collaboration with a community college.
Cerritos College’s Office of Economic Development, through the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies, started working with Lockheed Martin in 2001, providing workforce development, employee recruitment, and employee training in composite fabrication. Through this collaboration, more than 500 employees have been trained in new acquired skills. In 2004, Cerritos College received the Excellence in Partnership Award from the California Community College Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE) for its work with Lockheed Martin. Last year, Lockheed Martin awarded Cerritos College a contract for its entire touch-labor development program, retaining the college exclusively for skilled labor training.
