By the Way . . . 

 
Governor Names Acting Education Secretary. Governor Schwarzenegger on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, appointed Scott Himelstein as acting Secretary for Education. 

Himelstein previously served as deputy and chief of staff to former Secretary for Education Alan Bersin. Bersin resigned in December to return to the San Diego area to be closer to his family. 

Himelstein will be leading the charge for the Governor’s agenda on reinventing and rebuilding career-technical education, increasing parental access to user-friendly data on schools, passage of a new facilities bond for schools, and improving the teacher credentialing process. 

This position does not require Senate confirmation.
