Walters Leaves Berkeley City College
Judith E. Walters will leave her post as the CEO of Berkeley City College (BCC) to become the sixth president of Diablo Valley College (DVC) in Pleasant Hill.
Walters has signed a four-year contract with the Contra Costa Community College District and will begin on August 1. According to the Berkeley Daily Planet, as President of Berkeley City College, Walters presided over the transition of the downtown community college from its rental quarters to a newly built Center Street building.
Walters was named as the permanent president of BCC just last year. Peralta Community College District Chancellor Elihu Harris described Walters as “the sixth president of Diablo Valley, the last president of Vista Community College, and the first president of Berkeley City College.”
Walters will bring 20 years of experience in the California community college system. She has a doctorate in interdisciplinary arts and sciences with a specialization in leadership and organizational effectiveness from the University of Ohio, a master’s degree in education from Alliant International University in San Diego, and a bachelor’s degree in English from Idaho State University. Walters’ replacement as Interim BCC President is Dr. Wise Allen, a Peralta Community College District employee who was selected by Chancellor Harris.
According to Walters, “I am excited, delighted, and honored to be selected as DVC’s new president.”
