By the Way . . .
Board of Governors Elects Officers. On Monday, November 3, 2008, the Board of Governors (BOG) elected Board officers, as well as the representative and alternate for the California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC), for 2009. The following members, who had been nominated during the September 8, 2008, BOG meeting, were elected by unanimous vote of the Board:
President: Lance T. Izumi
Vice President: Deborah Malumed
CPEC Representative: Carolyn Russell
CPEC Alternate: Pauline Larwood
These representatives will provide leadership during an extraordinarily difficult time for the California Community Colleges (CCC). The number of Full-Time Equivalent Students (FTES) has increased by 10.2%, but resources to serve those students have declined. Meanwhile, the state will continue to look to CCC to help turn around California’s economy.
