Special Session Update—November 17, 2008
The date to watch for Special Session action is currently set as Sunday, November 23, 2008. That’s when both the Assembly and Senate have scheduled floor sessions, with the Assembly starting things off at noon and the Senate going in at 4:00 p.m. Senate President pro Tem Don Perata (D-Oakland) had announced that November 23 would be the last possible date action can be taken without interfering with the upcoming 2009-10 legislative session.
In other news, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) announced 11 appointments to the Assembly Banking and Finance Committee for the Special Session. Committee Chair Pedro Nava (D-Santa Barbara) announced that Assembly Democrats will be introducing special session legislation on loan modification plans to help Californians arrange affordable mortgage payments with their lenders. The Governor has also called for special session legislation to address the state’s mortgage crisis.
