Budget Alert
At 3:20 p.m. on September 16, 2008, the Governor announced that he would veto the Budget passed by the Legislature only 13 hours before. We expected him to object to the degree of control the Legislature had kept to itself in terms of spending the “rainy day fund.” However, in his statement regarding his planned veto, the Governor not only cited the plan’s “fake Budget reform,” but criticized every aspect of the Budget, calling it “irresponsible.”
The Governor asserted that this Budget would cause huge tax increases or cuts to education next year. We expect, as acknowledged by the Governor, that the Legislature will override the veto.
