By The Way. . .

Additional Major Legislative Staff Changes Announced. Stephanie Halnan has accepted a position as Chief Education Consultant for Assembly Speaker Cruz Bustamante. Stephanie moves from her role as Education Consultant for the Senate Appropriations Committee to the office of one of California's most influential legislative leaders. Stephanie, prior to her responsibilities in the Capitol, was a partner in the lobbying firm of Mockler-Halnan, Inc., and has additionally served as a board member for the San Juan Unified School District. Her exceptional contributions in the State Senate will be missed, but we welcome her new leadership responsibilities in the Speaker's Office.

Hal Geiogue has been appointed as Chief Consultant to the Assembly Education Committee which will be chaired by Assembly Member Kerry Mazzoni (D-Novato).

Hal previously served as Chief Consultant to the Assembly Education Committee when the Democrats had majority control. He also served as Chief Deputy Director to former State Treasurer Kathleen Brown and for twenty-three years served in the Office of the Legislative Analyst. We welcome Hal back to the major Assembly position.

Christopher Cabaldon returns as Chief Consultant to the Assembly Higher Education Committee which will be chaired by Assembly Member Ted Lempert (D-San Mateo). Christopher held the same position in 1995 when former Assembly Member Marguerite Archie-Hudson chaired the Committee.

As of this date, staffing has not been announced for Assembly Budget Subcommittee #2, chaired by Jack Scott (D-Pasadena).
