By the Way...
Hot August Bills Still Waiting Action By The Governor. Governor Wilson has not signed or vetoed any of the major bills affecting community colleges that reached his desk after the legislature adjourned on August 31. More than 400 bills were sent to the Governor for his consideration, and he has until September 30, 1996 to take action. Readers should refer to the August 30 Update (see "Hot August Bills &emdash; Part II," page 168) for a listing of major bills that are currently on the Governor's desk.
Please note that Assembly Bill 445 (Campbell, D-Martinez) which contained provisions to implement the Proposition 98 agreement between K-12 schools and community colleges failed passage. During the final hours of the legislative session on August 31 the Assembly failed to concur in the Senate amendments. Thus the bill did not reach the Governor's desk as previously reported.
