ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The number one area for findings in an audit report are those in the area of Associated Student Body (ASB). It is critical that district- and site-level staff receive training in this area on a regular basis to ensure that the district as well as the employees, are being protected.

There have been changes to regulations over the last  several years related to food sales. Site-level staff need to become familiar with these regulations as they work with students and fundraising events. This format will allow the school agencies to build capacity within its organiza-tion by expanding the number of employees that receive training who are involved in the handling of ASB funds.

This workshop will allow you and your district staff in the business office and school sites to be able to view the workshop from your office without any travel.

This workshop provides all of the information necessary to enable school agencies to establish ASB Accounts, including business practices that should be followed and monitored and the roles and responsibilities of those involved.

Michele Huntoon, CPA, and Lewis Wiley, Jr., lead the  discussions on ASB from the establishment through to the accounting and reporting, good business practices, and those areas to avoid or identify when problems exists.

• Determining the structure—Organized vs. Unorganized
• Discussion of laws and regulations, including food sales
• Who should be handling contracts?
• Safeguarding property/assets
• Establishing operational guidelines and business practices
• What is allowable and nonallowable fees and expenses?
• Are there requirements regarding account and reporting and is it part of the Annual Audit?
• Can gifts and awards be purchased with ASB funds?
• Critical aspects of establishing a student store

The cost of the workshop is $99 for an individual registra-tion. We offer a discount on a sliding scale for multiple  enrollments. If you are interested, please notify us for more information.
