About the Webinar

Every local educational agency (LEA) is in the throes of planning for delivery of instruction and learning for the 2021–22 school year with one key, unanswered question: “How do we educate and serve students who want to continue with virtual learning?” The current authority for distance learning expires on June 30th, and many LEAs are curious about their options for serving students who want to remain in a virtual learning environment.

This workshop will untangle and demystify the requirements of existing independent study laws to illuminate the ways they can be leveraged to provide a high-quality virtual learning option for students.  Specifically, attendees will gain a better understanding of the similarities and differences between traditional independent study and course-based independent study programs in order to determine which better suits their needs and programmatic design goals. In addition to building a greater understanding of the legal nuts and bolts of independent study, attendees will walk away with critical operational tools that are necessary to run a successful virtual learning program for the 2021–22 school year and beyond.
