About the Workshop

In January, Governor Gavin Newsom will present his fourth State Budget, after having successfully defeated the 2021 recall. California’s rebounding economy fueled the “California Comeback Plan,” which will be hard to top as Governor Newsom once again campaigns to keep his job through re-election in November 2022. Just as the 2020–21 and 2021–22 State Budgets were shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, the impacts of the pandemic will continue to be reflected in both the state of the economy and the needs of the state.

The release of the Governor’s Budget proposal begins the process for legislative consideration of the State Budget, but it also provides critical information for development of school agency budgets. The Governor’s Budget proposal for 2022–23—especially the specifics for K–12 education—will be of vital importance to the state’s education community. The best way to receive an overview of the Governor’s priorities and to get an explanation of the proposed State Budget’s underlying details will once again be at School Services of California Inc.’s (SSC) Governor’s Budget Workshop.

As always, the workshop will focus on the major policy issues and funding proposals of the Governor, and it will provide critical details for local educational agencies (LEAs) to project their revenues for 2022–23—and for the balance of 2021–22—in accordance with the Administration’s budget recommendations and fiscal assumptions. The workshop will also offer SSC’s insights and advice on what LEAs should do now to prepare for the upcoming year. We look forward to joining you on this important journey.

Workshop Format

We have spent almost the last two years offering our traditionally in-person workshops as webinars due to the pandemic. We are happy to announce that the 2022 Governor’s Budget Workshop will be back in-person at two locations—Sacramento and Garden Grove (Orange County). In order to ensure your continued health and safety, the number of attendees at the in-person workshops will be limited. For this reason, and for those unable to attend in person, we will continue to offer a live webinar option after delivery of the live workshops. The webinar will be recorded so that you can view the content at a convenient time. Attendees will be able to submit questions during the in-person workshops and live webinar to be answered at the end of each event. This feature has been very popular, and we are happy to continue to offer it during the live workshops and webinar!

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is intended for California’s education leaders responsible for policy and budget decisions, including board members, superintendents, superintendents’ cabinet members, chief financial officers, fiscal directors/ budget officers, public affairs/legislative officers, negotiators and human resources staff, charter school officials, and others in educational leadership positions.

We know these times continue to be challenging for school agencies. At the 2022 Governor’s Budget Workshop we will offer timely information and advice to navigate these uncertain times. We look forward to seeing you there!
