Knightsen Elementary School District is seeking an experienced school business professional to serve as its next Chief Business Official. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable and motivated individual who is ready to take the next step in their school business career and serve in a key leadership role within a small, community-focused school district.
Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Chief Business Official is a hands-on leader responsible for the District’s business and fiscal operations, including budget development and monitoring, accounting, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, risk management, facilities planning and construction, transportation, and nutrition services.
As a small district, the CBO has the opportunity to work across all areas of school business operations and collaborate closely with the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, administrators, and staff. The position is well suited for an experienced school business professional who enjoys both the strategic and day-to-day aspects of school finance and operations.
Requirements / Qualifications
The successful candidate will have progressively responsible experience in school business, finance, accounting, or related administrative operations, with demonstrated knowledge of California public school business practices.
Ideal candidates will possess:
• Experience in one or more key areas of school business operations, including budget development and monitoring, accounting, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, facilities, transportation, nutrition services, or risk management.
• Knowledge of California school finance, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• The ability to work collaboratively with the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, administrators, staff, county office personnel, auditors, and other agencies.
• Experience supervising, supporting, and developing business office staff.
• The ability and willingness to be a hands-on leader who can work both strategically and directly within the day-to-day operations of a small school district.
Prior experience as a Chief Business Official is not required. Candidates with strong school business experience who are prepared to take the next step into a district-level leadership role are encouraged to apply.
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, public administration, or a related field is desirable. Relevant school business experience and professional training may be considered in combination with formal education.
CASBO CBO certification or other relevant school business training/certification is desirable.
Salary Information: $146,741.23 - $174,422.12
